THE ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE CHURCH<\/strong><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/div>

The role of the Holy Spirit in the Church has, in many cases, been relegated to the background. Many believers have limited understanding of His person, His ministry, and His function in the life of the Church, which is the body of Christ. The Holy Spirit is not an influence or abstract force, but a distinct Person of the Godhead, promised by Jesus Christ to His disciples after His departure from the earth.<\/p>

As recorded in John 14:15-18<\/strong>, \u201cIf ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever\u2026 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

This promise reveals that the Holy Spirit is the Comforter sent by the Father, abiding with believers who love and obey Christ. His manifestation is therefore closely tied to obedience and love for the Lord.<\/p>

As further stated in John 14:26<\/strong>, \u201cBut the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

The Holy Spirit is therefore not a mere extension of divine power, but fully God, actively working in and through believers. He empowers, purifies, and manifests the presence of God in the life of the believer and in the Church.<\/p>

THE MINISTRY AND WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT<\/strong><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

His ministry includes empowerment, as seen in Luke 24:49<\/strong>, \u201cBut tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.\u201d<\/em> He also brings conviction of sin and guides into truth as stated in John 16:13<\/strong>, \u201cHowbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

He regenerates the believer, as expressed in John 3:5-6<\/strong>, \u201cExcept a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

Through the Holy Spirit, believers become new creations in Christ as affirmed in 2 Corinthians 5:17<\/strong>, \u201cTherefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

The Holy Spirit also testifies of Christ and glorifies Him as stated in John 15:26<\/strong>, \u201cBut when the Comforter is come\u2026 he shall testify of me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

When a believer is truly born again, the Spirit of God dwells within him, enabling him to live above sin and walk in obedience. As written in Romans 8:9<\/strong>, \u201cNow if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.\u201d<\/em> and Romans 8:14<\/strong>, \u201cFor as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

FALSE EXPRESSIONS AND THE CONSEQUENCES OF NEGLECTING THE SPIRIT<\/strong><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

However, genuine manifestation of the Holy Spirit is only experienced by those who love and obey Christ. As recorded in Acts 5:32<\/strong>, \u201cAnd we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

Those who reject Christ in practice may only exhibit a form of religiosity devoid of spiritual life, leading to deception and superficial worship. As warned in Matthew 15:8-9<\/strong>, \u201cThis people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

The Church is therefore meant to function as a Spirit led body where every believer operates through spiritual gifts for edification. These gifts enable believers to serve in manifestation, service, and ministry, all under the direction of the Holy Spirit.<\/p>

When the Church loses dependence on the Holy Spirit, it becomes vulnerable to fleshly practices, traditions of men, and worldly systems. This results in spiritual dryness, lack of discernment, and inability to reflect the true nature of Christ to the world.<\/p>

Jesus warned of false influences in the Church as recorded in Acts 20:30<\/strong>, \u201cAlso of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.\u201d<\/em> and in Matthew 10:16<\/strong>, \u201cBehold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

RESTORATION, LEADERSHIP, AND THE WAY FORWARD<\/strong><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/div>

At salvation, a believer is transformed from the old nature into a new creation. As stated in John 1:12-13<\/strong>, \u201cBut as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God\u2026 Which were born, not of blood\u2026 but of God.\u201d<\/em> This new birth establishes a new identity and spiritual authority in Christ.<\/p>

The Church, however, is often weakened when leadership shifts focus from Christ to human authority, thereby overshadowing the ministry of the Holy Spirit. The Church is not a human possession but the body of Christ, designed to function under His headship through the Spirit.<\/p>

To restore the Church to its intended function, leadership must return fully to biblical authority and Spirit led order. The Word of God must remain the ultimate standard for doctrine, conduct, and fellowship. Believers must be built up through sound teaching, discipleship, and spiritual maturity rather than excessive programs that distract from personal devotion to God.<\/p>

True restoration will also involve encouraging agape fellowship, caring for the needy, strengthening faith, and equipping believers to live Christ centered lives. The Church must be taught how to operate in spiritual gifts, develop intimacy with God, and stand firm in Christian ethics and spiritual warfare.<\/p>

Ultimately, the Church must recognize that its mission is the advancement of the Kingdom of God, not personal, denominational, or institutional expansion. Every believer is called to walk in the Spirit, live in obedience, and manifest the life of Christ to the world.<\/p>

May God restore His Church to purity, power, and truth in Jesus name.<\/p>
